Applicants ensure current and acceptable proof of English language proficiency. Please refer to the English Language Proficiency (ELP) eligibility requirements.
Applicants must be permanently and continuously living in Alberta, and be able to provide accurate and adequate proof for the entirety of the time indicated, if using Option C. Please refer to the Residence in Alberta eligibility requirements.
Applicants apply to the AIMG Program by clicking Apply. Individuals must have completed, carefully reviewed, and submitted a Profile by 3:30pm MT May 30, 2025 to proceed in the AIMG Program application process.
An Administrative Exception (AE) can be requested within the applicant’s online application. AE requests will only be accepted until 3:30pm MT May 27, 2025 to allow time for processing before online application Profiles are locked at 3:30pm MT May 30, 2025.
An English Language Proficiency (ELP) Exemption Survey can be completed within the applicant’s online application.
Residence in Alberta – Option C document(s) which require verification must be verified from May 1 – 30, 2025 (after the online application period has begun). This specifically pertains to the Residence in Alberta Statutory Declaration. Please refer to Document Verification section on the Application Process page.
Most supporting documents must be uploaded to an applicant’s online application by 3:30pm MT June 6, 2025.

Applicants who have not paid their application fee by June 6, 2025 will not have their applications reviewed and will be deemed ineligible.
All applicants must have a passing grade on the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam (MCCQE) Part 1 by October 2025.
The last opportunity to take the exam and be eligible for the AIMG Program 2024 Cycle is August – September 2025 session.
Applicants must have either Canadian Permanent Residence or Citizenship status. Please ensure validity of documentation.
Applicants who think they may not be able to meet this deadline are encouraged to request an Administrative Exception (AE) through their online application.
IELTS Academic, IELTS Online, OET, OET@Home, and CELPIP results are due to be both shared and uploaded.

CaRMS Online opens for applicants in September. Please refer to CaRMS Online for further information and updates.
Please note that CaRMS will not receive the AIMG Program’s list of eligible Candidates until after the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI), late-November. Candidates will not be able to apply to Alberta positions until that time.
Applicants take the fall NAC Exam (if applicable). Applicants must receive a pass standing for the NAC Exam to remain eligible for the AIMG Program. Please refer to the Medical Council of Canada.
Applicants select the “Letter” tab in their AIMG Program online application to view their eligibility status. From this point forward, eligible AIMG Program applicants are referred to as Candidates.
Candidates must accept their invitation to the November MMI by checking the pertinent box embedded in their Eligibility Status Notification, by the stipulated deadline. Failure to RSVP will result in ineligibility.
Applicants must share PASS results on the following Medical Council of Canada (MCC) exams with the AIMG Program, via PhysiciansApply, to be eligible for the current cycle:
- National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) Exam
- MCC Qualifying Exam (MCCQE) Part 1
Documents must remain shared until CaRMS Match Day.
By invitation only, eligible Candidates will take the MMI. MMI are held virtually. Candidates must be available for the MMI on the day that is assigned.
Applicants must have their degree conferred by December 31, 2025.
An applicant’s official degree must be housed within PhysiciansApply, access shared with the AIMG Program, and the source verification process started (status “Reviewed and Accepted”) by 3:30pm MT January 10, 2026. Refer to the Medical Education page for more information.
AIMG Program Externship Orientation and Clinical Assessment.
Matched AIMG Program Candidates participate in mandatory AIMG Program Externship (orientation sessions and clinical assessment). Matched Candidates are referred to as Externs. Externs must be available for the entirety of the Externship timeframe.

Applicants can create, complete and edit their AIMG Program online application Profile from 9:00 AM MT May 1, 2024 – 3:30 PM MT May 31, 2024. Afterwards, an applicant’s Profile will be locked. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure proper completion of their Profile.

Applicants may submit an Administrative Exception Request for an exception to any of the supporting document requirements from 9:00 AM MT May 7, 2024 – 3:30 PM MT May 26, 2024. Administrative Exceptions are granted at the sole discretion of the AIMG Program.
This is the main supporting documents submission deadline. Most AIMG Program online application supporting documents are due to be uploaded. Please review the website for exceptions.
Applicants must have their PhysiciansApply Profile shared with the AIMG Program.

Application fee is payable to the ‘University of Calgary’ and must be sent to the AIMG Program office. It is recommended applicants use a trackable delivery service, save the receipt, and allow adequate time for delivery. Fees post-marked past this date will be marked “Late” and may compromise the acceptance of an application.
Applicant’s name and AIMG Program ID# must be written on the front of the money order/bank draft prior to mailing.

All medical degrees conferred prior to the current year must have a status of “Verification Returned: PASSED” by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in physiciansapply.ca by this date.
Candidates who sat the MCCQE Part 1 in the April to May 2023 session must share a PASS result with the AIMG Program through physiciansapply.ca to be eligible for the current cycle.

NOTE: We are aware that IMGBC is also holding their MMI on November 18 & 19, 2023. The AIMG and IMGBC will be working together to develop a process for addressing the scheduling issues which may arise, in order to avoid double booking of exam dates and times. Applicants are strongly encouraged to share if they anticipate participating in both the AIMG and IMGBC MMI to avoid scheduling conflicts.
