Applicants ensure current and acceptable proof of English language proficiency. Please refer to the English Language Proficiency (ELP) eligibility requirements.
Applicants must be permanently and continuously living in Alberta, and be able to provide accurate and adequate proof for the entirety of the time indicated, if using Option C. Please refer to the Residence in Alberta eligibility requirements. *NEW Option available beginning in the 2028 Cycle.
Applicants apply to the AIMG Program by clicking the Apply button. Individuals must have completed, carefully reviewed, and submitted a Profile by May 31, 2027 @3:30PM ABT.
An Administrative Exception (AE) can be requested within the applicant’s online application. AE requests will only be accepted until May 25, 2027 @ 3:30PM ABT to allow time for processing before online application Profiles are locked May 31, 2027 @3:30PM ABT.
An English Language Proficiency (ELP) Exemption Survey can be completed within the applicant’s online application.

Residence in Alberta – Option C document(s) which require verification must be verified from May 3 – June 4, 2027 (after the online application period has begun). This specifically pertains to the Residence in Alberta Statutory Declaration. Please refer to Document Notarization section of the Application Process page.
All applicants must create a physiciansapply.ca account and authorize sharing with the AIMG Program by June 4, 2027 @3:30PM ABT.
This requirement applies to ALL applicants, including those who do not yet have exam results or medical degree conferred. Applicants awaiting exams results or degree conferral must create a physiciansapply.ca Profile for identity verification purposes.

All applicants must have a passing grade on the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam (MCCQE), results shared with the AIMG Program via physicianapply.ca by October 22, 2027 @3:30PM ABT.
The last opportunity to take the exam and be eligible for the AIMG Program 2028 Cycle is the August – September 2027 session.
Applicants must have either Canadian Permanent Residence or Citizenship status. Please ensure validity of documentation.
Applicants who think they may not be able to meet this deadline are encouraged to request an Administrative Exception (AE) through their online application.
CaRMS Online opens for applicants in September. Please refer to CaRMS Online for further information and updates.
Please note that CaRMS will not receive the AIMG Program’s list of eligible Candidates until after the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI). Applicants will most likely be able to apply for CaRMS IMG designated spots November 20 – 24, 2027.
All applicants must have a passing grade on the Medical Council of Canada National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) Examination, results shared with the AIMG Program via physicianapply.ca by November 19, 2027 @3:30PM ABT.
The last opportunity to take the exam and be eligible for the AIMG Program 2028 Cycle is the September 2027 session.
IELTS Academic, IELTS Online, OET, OET@Home, and CELPIP results are due to be both shared and uploaded. This includes all re writes, re-takes, re-marking, re-evaluation, appeals, and Enquiry on Results (EORs).

Applicants select the “Letter” tab in their AIMG Program online application to view their Eligibility Status Notification. Eligible AIMG Program applicants are referred to as Candidates and are invited to participate in the MMI held in November.
Candidates must accept their invitation and follow the RSVP instructions indicated in their Letter by the stipulated deadline. Failure to RSVP will result in ineligibility.
Applicants must share PASS results on Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam (MCCQE) with the AIMG Program, via physicianapply.ca, to be eligible for the current cycle.
Documents must remain shared until CaRMS Match Day.

Matched AIMG Program Candidates participate in a mandatory Pre-Residency Orientation from June 1 – 11, 2026. Prework must be completed from May 18-29, 2026, before the start of Pre-Residency Orientation. Candidates must be available for the entirety of the Pre-Residency Orientation.
An applicant’s official degree must be housed within PhysiciansApply, access shared with the AIMG Program, and the source verification process started (status “Reviewed and Accepted”) by 3:30pm MT July 01, 2026. If you are experiencing delays, please immediately email the AIMG Program at aimg@ucalgary.ca. Refer to the Medical Education page for more information.
Applicants must have their degree conferred by July 01, 2026.
