Medical Education
Applicants must have a medical degree from a medical school which is recognized in Canada.
All applicants must meet one of the following criteria
- Have an undergraduate medical degree (e.g., MD, MBBS, or MCChB) in allopathic medicine from a medical school not accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS), generally those outside of Canada and the United States. The medical school must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and be recognized in Canada.
- Be in the final year of undergraduate study at a medical school outside of Canada and the United States which is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and is recognized in Canada. Applicants in the final year of medical school must have their degree conferred by December 31, 2025.
- Be in the final year of undergraduate study at an accredited Osteopathy school in the United States. Applicants in the final year of medical school must have their degree conferred by December 31, 2025.
- Be a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) of an accredited Osteopathy school in the United States.
To check whether a medical school is recognized in Canada, locate the school in the World Directory of Medical Schools, and click on the Sponsor Notes tab. A note for “Canada” indicates that the medical school is recognized in Canada.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to verify that the diploma-granting medical school meets the requirements stated above.
Applicant must provide proof of completion of their medical degree by:
- Sharing access of their medical degree within PhysiciansApply, access shared with with the AIMG Program. The status of the document must be at least “Reviewed and Accepted” at the time of application.
NOTE: Degree must have a status of “Verification Returned: PASSED” by June 06, 2025 @ 3:30 PM MT.
Access to this document must be shared with the AIMG Program by June 06, 2025 @ 3:30 PM MT, or the application will be deemed incomplete.
- A letter from the Dean of their medical school on official stationery, confirming that their degree is expected to be conferred by December 31, 2025, in their supporting documents upload. Extensions to this deadline will not be provided.
- A copy of their MCC NAC Student Attestation, signed by the Dean of their medical school, stating their expected date of graduation.
NOTES
- If there is difficulty obtaining either of these documents, please refer to our administrative exception process.
- The official degree must be housed within PhysiciansApply, access shared with the AIMG Program, and the source verification process started (status “Reviewed and Accepted”) by January 10, 2026 @ 3:30 PM MT. Candidates are solely responsible for meeting this deadline and should communicate directly with PhysiciansApply, access shared withPhysiciansApply if necessary.
- If your expected date of graduation is in December, in addition to sharing your degree, you must communicate directly with PhysiciansApply, access shared with PhysiciansApply that you are trying to meet the deadline of January 10, 2026 @ 3:30 PM MT, to achieve the status of “Reviewed and Accepted” and remain eligible for the CaRMS match.
