About the Program
The AIMG Program is a provincial assessment pathway, established in 2001, that uses a competitive, merit-based assessment protocol.
The Program identifies International Medical Graduates (IMGs) residing in Alberta who demonstrate the clinical skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for entry into a postgraduate medical residency program.
Applicants must provide evidence of physical continuous residence in Alberta, valid medical education credentials, and participate in all required assessments.
Successful applicants have the opportunity to apply to a defined number of IMG-designated, postgraduate residency positions (year one entry) in a number of disciplines at both the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. These residency positions are funded by the Alberta Government and align with recognized provincial physician resource needs.
The Alberta International Medical Graduate Program
The Alberta International Medical Graduate (AIMG) Program identifies, through comprehensive assessment, qualified applicants who are eligible to compete for defined residency positions. The AIMG Program advances this mission through evaluation, research and support.
