Suggested Timelines for Medical Council of Canada Exams

Please note that these dates have been provided as a guideline to assist in the application planning process. All applicants should confirm eligibility requirements and timelines for the Evaluating Exam (MCCEE), National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) Exam and Qualifying Exam Part 1 (MCCQE Part 1) with the Medical Council of Canada. Those currently studying abroad should confirm with their institution the date on which they are anticipated to complete all requirements to graduate. The AIMG Program is not responsible for the accuracy of the dates provided.

The timing to obtain a pass standing in the requisite MCC assessments for prospective 2019 Cycle applicants, based on graduation date, is suggested as follows:

  • Take MCCEE – last possible date November 2017
  • Take MCCQE1 – last possible date Spring 2018
  • Apply to AIMG Program May 2018
  • Take NAC Exam no later than Fall 2018
  • Participate in CaRMS residency match 2019

All requirements to graduate no later than March 31, 2018

  • Take MCCEE no later than November 2017
  • Degree conferred by March 31, 2018
  • Take MCCQE1 no later than Spring 2018
  • Apply to AIMG Program May 2018
  • Take NAC Exam no later than Fall 2018
  • Participate in CaRMS residency match 2019

All requirements to graduate no later than April and June 2018

  • Take MCCEE no later than November 2017
  • Take MCCQE1 no later than Spring 2018
  • Apply to AIMG program May 2018
  • Degree conferred no later than June 30, 2018
  • Take NAC Exam no later than Fall 2018
  • Participate in CaRMS residency match 2019

All requirements to graduate no later than November 2018

  • Take MCCEE no later than November 2017
  • Take MCCQE1 no later than Spring 2018
  • Apply to AIMG program May 2018
  • Take NAC Exam no later than Fall 2018
  • Degree conferred no later than November 30, 2018
  • Participate in CaRMS residency match 2019

All requirements to graduate between December 2018 and June 2019

  • Take MCCEE no later than November 2018
  • Take MCCQE1 no later than Spring 2019
  • Apply to AIMG program May 2019
  • Degree conferred no later than June 30, 2019
  • Take NAC Exam no later than Fall 2019
  • Participate in CaRMS residency match 2020

All AIMG Program eligibility and assessment requirements must be met before an applicant is able to participate in the CaRMS residency match for Alberta IMG-designated positions.
