Suggested Timelines for AIMG Program Required Exams

Please note that these dates have been provided as a guideline to assist in the application planning process. All applicants should confirm eligibility requirements and timelines for the National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) Exam and Qualifying Exam Part 1 (MCCQE Part 1) with the Medical Council of Canada. Those currently studying abroad should confirm with their institution the date on which they are anticipated to complete all requirements to graduate. The AIMG Program is not responsible for the accuracy of the dates provided.

Please visit mcc.ca and  www.mccevolution.ca to confirm eligibility and timelines for the Medical Council of Canada Exams for the 2020 Cycle. 

The timing to obtain a pass standing in the requisite MCC assessments for prospective 2020 Cycle applicants, based on graduation date, is suggested as follows:

  • Apply to AIMG Program May 2019
  • Take MCCQE1 – no later than July 2019 and achieve PASS standing
  • Take NAC Exam no later than Fall 2019 and achieve PASS standing
  • Take AIMG Program MMI October 2019
  • Participate in CaRMS residency match 2020
  • Apply to AIMG Program May 2019
  • Take MCCQE1 no later than July 2019 and achieve PASS standing
  • Take NAC Exam no later than Fall 2019 and achieve PASS standing
  • Take AIMG Program MMI October 2019
  • Participate in CaRMS residency match 2020
  • Degree conferred by December 31, 2019
  • NOT eligible to apply to AIMG Program 2020 Cycle
  • May be eligible to take MCCQE Part 1 in 2019, refer to mcc.ca
  • May be eligible to take NAC Exam in 2019, refer to mcc.ca

All AIMG Program eligibility and assessment requirements must be met before an applicant is able to participate in the CaRMS residency match for Alberta IMG-designated positions.
