Criteria
| ALBERTA RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT |
Proof of Residency in Alberta
Candidates must meet ONE of the following
requirements:
- Have attended a high school in Alberta for two or more
years
- Have attended a post secondary institution in Alberta
full time for two or more years
- Have been a continuous resident of the province of Alberta
for 6 or more weeks as of the AIMG Program application deadline.
No exceptions are made to this requirement. The AIMG
Program may request further evidence of residency status.
Proof of Alberta Residency must be submitted by all applicants.
Residency may be substantiated in ONE of
the following ways:
- An official transcript from the Alberta school or post
secondary institution you attended.
- An AIMG Program Alberta Residency Statutory
Declaration form confirming that you have been a continuous
resident of the province of Alberta for 6 or more weeks
up to and including the AIMG Program application deadline,
sworn by the applicant in 2010 before an Alberta commissioner
for oaths, an Alberta notary public or an Alberta lawyer,
to which is attached notarized copies of at least 3
documents from the following list:
Documents that may be used to substantiate a candidate’s
proof of Alberta residency include the following:
- Current rental, lease or mortgage agreement between the
applicant and a third party linking the applicant to their
current home address in Alberta as submitted on the online
application form
- Current landline phone bill linking the applicant to
their current home address in Alberta as submitted on the
application form
- Official letter of employment in Alberta, dated within
six months of application
- Valid Alberta Health Care Card
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License
- Valid Alberta Identification Card
AIMG Program Alberta Residency Statutory Declaration
Applicants must provide notarized original
AIMG Program Alberta Residency Statutory Declaration
form in their application package
Declarations must:
- Be notarized
- Be current for the application year
- Include a daytime telephone number for the notary
- Be signed with an official seal

Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination
(MCCEE) All applicants applying for assessment
with the AIMG Program must have:
- Received a passing grade on the MCCEE
Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination
Part 1 (MCCQE1)
ALL International Medical Graduate(IMG) applicants
applying for assessment with the AIMG Program must have:
- Received a passing grade on the MCCQE1
ALL Final Year Medical Student (FYMS) applicants
applying for assessment with the AIMG Program must:
- Provide evidence of registration for the Spring or Fall
examination for the current year by submitting a copy of
the “Registration Complete and Accepted” email
notification letter from the Medical Council of Canada with
their application package.
Substantiating the Medical Council of Canada passing
results:
ALL International Medical Graduate (IMG) applicants must:
- Submit a notarized copy of letter of results received
from the MCC for both MCCEE and MCCQE1 scores.
ALL Final Year Medical Student (FYMS) applicants must:
Online reference request and submission.
- Each applicant/application requires 3 references. The online application allows for one additional referee in the event one of your referees does not respond.
- Verification of referee’s willingness to provide a reference for you is recommended.
- Verification of referees’ correct email addresses* prior to submitting their contact information is recommended.
*NOTE: Yahoo server detects AIMG Program emails as spam. Yahoo email addresses will be rejected.
Upon completion of the online application, requests
for references and standardized forms will be automatically
emailed to each referee.
Applicants should:
- Once online application has been submitted notify each
referee that they can expect to receive an email from the
AIMG Program within 48 hours.
- If referees do not receive the reference request email
from the AIMG Program, it is imperative that you email the
AIMG Program to have the reference request resent.
NOTE: It is the responsibility of the applicant
to follow up with the referee to ensure that the online form
has been completed and returned to our office.
No paper references will be accepted.
Any document submitted in a language other than English as
part of the application package must also be translated into
English.
- Official documents including medical school transcripts
and diplomas written in another language must be translated
into English, and notarized as copies of true translations,
prior to submission.
- Translations by North American translators and North
American certified translators are preferred.
- Translations by family or friends are not acceptable.
- The original document and each translation must contain
the official seal of the translator, be signed and include
the date and location of the translation.
- When submitting a translated document, attach the notarized
copy of the ‘true’ translation to a notarized
copy of the original document and submit both documents
in the application package.
The documents listed below must be notarized by a
Notary Public in order to be included in the application package:
- AIMGP Applicant Identity Verification form**
- Proof of Name Change
- Status in Canada
- AIMGP Alberta Residency Statutory Declaration form**
- Proof of “proficiency” in the English Language
- MCCEE results
- MCCQE1 results
- USMLE results
- Medical School transcript
- Medical School degree/diploma
- Post-Graduate Training certificates
- Other Graduate diplomas
- Other certifications
- All documents translated into English
