Externship Match Process
The match process occurs in December of each
year.
Residency program directors provide a ranked list of acceptable
candidates to the AIMG Program office.
AIMG Program candidates provide a ranked list of their program
(either The University of Calgary or The University of Alberta)
and discipline preferences to the AIMG Program office. Candidates
will indicate which of the available programs and disciplines
they are selecting, in order of preference. If a candidate
has applied to a discipline which is offered both at The University
of Alberta and The University of Calgary, the candidate must
rank both programs.
The AIMG Program conducts the match process. Once candidates
have been matched to programs, all candidates will be notified
by AIMG Program email if they have been successfully matched
or not successfully matched in December.
Note: The AIMG Program will maximize filling
of available Externship positions in the Province. It is possible
that a candidate may not be matched to their first
choice.
There are two factors that affect the match:
- The number of positions available in each program at
each University
- The rankings of program directors and candidates
