Final
Year Medical Students (FYMS) Route to the AIMG Program
Final Year Medical Students (FYMS) who are Albertans (i.e.,
attended high school, or a post-secondary institution in Alberta
for at least two years) studying medicine in an IMED/FAIMER
medical school that has been in existence for a minimum of
10 years outside of Canada and the United States may apply
to the AIMG Program.
FYMS are required to meet the AIMG Program eligibility requirements.
FYMS must provide proof of Alberta residency, fluency in English
(if English is not the applicant’s first language),
and successful completion of the Medical Council of Canada
Evaluating Examination (MCCEE) and successful completion of
the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part
1 (MCCQE1).
FYMS may apply prior to completing MCCQE1
providing they provide proof of completed MCCQE1 registration
and acceptance to sit either the Spring or Fall examination
of the application year. FYMS, who do not provide proof of
passing MCCQE1 prior to the AIMG Program Externship start
date, will not proceed.
FYMS applicants are encouraged to do the following:
- Send the required documents to the Physician
Credentials Registry of Canada prior to beginning
the last year of medical school. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for
processing and generating a preliminary report that enables
registration for MCCEE.
- Register for MCCEE as soon as possible
after the start of the final year of medical school, but
no more than 9 months before graduation following MCC guidelines.
MCCEE is offered approximately every 2 months for a 3-week
period in site worldwide. Allow 6-8 weeks for results to
be available.
- Apply to write MCCQE1 and retain email
confirmation of registration and acceptance.
- Apply to the AIMG Program BEFORE graduation.
