Externship - Orientation
and Clinical Assessment Candidates participating
in the AIMG Program Externship are required to participate
in a series of orientation sessions and a clinical assessment
phase, as stipulated in their written offer of a position
from the AIMG Program.
- Externs agree in writing, prior to commencing the Externship
period, that they will not be able to transfer into other
programs or locations during their Externship.
- Externs are required to complete their Externship rotations
as scheduled by their residency program.
- Externs are required to pay a pro-rated University tuition
fee for the period of their Externship.
- Externs are required to be eligible for College of Physician
and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) licensure.
- Externs are required to have Canadian Medical Protective
Agency (CMPA) liability coverage during the Externship phase.
This coverage can be extended to post-graduate residency
training.
- Externs must successfully complete their Externship prior
to entering post graduate residency training.
- The applicable Residency program director authorizes
the approval for Externs to commence postgraduate residency
training.
During Externship:
- Externs are assigned rotations.
- Externs are assigned to one or more residency program
preceptor(s).
- Residency program preceptors are required to evaluate
AIMG Program Extern performance and review the evaluations
with the Extern.
- AIMG Program Externs are required to review their evaluations
with their preceptor(s).
- Evaluations, signed by the preceptor and the Extern,
are submitted to the AIMG Program office.
Financial Support during Externship
The AIMG Program currently pays a monthly stipend of $1,050
to each AIMG Extern for each full month they participate in
the Externship.
During this period of protected learning and assessment, the
AIMG Extern may not hold clinical employment.
Note: Externs must arrange for their own
transportation during externship.
